Mid December saw the successful undertaking of the annual Inter-faculty BioFocus Research Conference at Macquarie University, with three CNBP aligned researchers key organisers of the event – Lindsay Parker, Annemarie Nadort and Varun Sreenivasan.
The annual conference provides a platform for the multidisciplinary community at Macquarie University to present and communicate research, discuss research outcomes and facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations spanning the fields of of biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering, physics, chemistry and medicine.
It also allows Higher Degree Research (HDR) students to practice their oral and poster presentation techniques in front of an audience, with a professional jury giving feedback.
Highlights of the conference included:
– 120 registered attendees (50% more than previous years)
– 2 plenary talks, 1 invited talk and 13 contributing talks (7 of which were from HDR students)
– 22 poster presentations
– 4 awarded prizes for outstanding oral and poster presentations to HDR students
– interest and financial support from industry, including attendance and commercial display from sponsors Merck Millipore and ThermoFischer. Industry supported poster prizes.
