Prof Ewa GoldysDeputy Director of CNBP Professor Ewa Goldys and Professor Nicki Packer attended the NSW  Health and Medical Research Hubs Forum on 29 July 2014 at the Harborview North Hotel, Sydney. Ewa and Nicki are official Members of Northern Sydney Research Hub led by Professor Carol Pollock, Research Director, Kolling Institute, Royal North Shore Hospital.

The objectives of the Forum was to:

1) Identify and agree on priorities for each Hub, OMHMR, and across the Hubs to support collaboration research and translation

2) To agree on governance structure and reporting

3) To agree on next steps, potential timeframes and a communication strategy

At this meeting the opening address was given by the NSW Minister for Health and Medical Research, Hon. Jillian Skinner. She announced the $ 24M funding of Sydney Genomics Collaboration with Garvan Institute to provide access to next generation sequencing fir NSW. The new grants program for access to these facilities is $ 7 M< for 3 years. Funding will enable better access to genomics technologies in NSW and enable programs in gene disorders in disease. Medical Devices commercialisation training program has also been announced.

The Hubs funding is $ 1.6 M for two years 0.8 M in 2014/2015. The new round of  the NSW Medical Devices Research Fund has $ 7.4 M available for distribution.
